Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Stone and oil driveways, grading, and excavating for Walton and the West Branch of the Delaware.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Catskill Foothills
Walton is a village on the West Branch of the Delaware River in the Catskill foothills. The valley floor is narrow, and the hills climb steeply on both sides, with farms and homes set along the side roads.
On a hillside driveway, water takes the surface first. Without a good pitch and an edge for it to leave by, it carries loose stone downhill every time it rains. Grading comes first on every job we do, and in country like this it is the most important part.
Services
Winters here are long and snowy, which makes a surface that handles freezing and thawing worth having. Stone and oil does not need regular sealing, and if you plow, keep the blade riding just above the surface and finish with a shovel.

Pitch, slope, and drainage set before any surface goes down.
Walkways, landings, retaining walls, and more.
Topsoil, stone, gravel, and more, Monday through Friday.
We do the excavating and grade work as well, and our dump trucks haul dirt and debris off the site so the work starts on a clean base.
Gravel and stone are sold from our yard in Greene, and delivery is available Monday through Friday. See gravel products
The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work
From the village of Walton and the river valley out onto the side roads, we cover the Walton area, including Hamden and Downsville.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
