Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Stone and oil driveways, grading, and gravel for homes and businesses in Binghamton and the towns around it.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
City and Valley
Binghamton grew up where the Chenango River meets the Susquehanna. The valley floor is flat and the neighborhoods above it are not, so two properties a mile apart can need very different work.
On the hillsides, grading and drainage come first. On the flats, the question is usually the base, since low ground stays wet longer after rain or snowmelt. Either way we look at the property in person before we quote it, because the preparation is a large part of both the price and how long the surface lasts.
Services
We also work with businesses. Stone and oil is available for parking lots as well as driveways, and we serve residential, commercial, and industrial customers across the Southern Tier.

The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work
From the hillside streets of the city out through Vestal, Endicott, Johnson City, Chenango Bridge, Conklin, and Port Crane, we cover the Binghamton area.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
