Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Stone and oil driveways, grading, and excavating for Sherburne and the farm country north of Norwich.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
North of Norwich
Sherburne is a village on Route 12 in northern Chenango County, in the valley of the Chenango River. Farms spread across the valley floor and up the hillsides, and the village sits in the middle of them.
Driveways here tend to be long, and a lot of them are gravel. A long gravel drive is one of the first things hard rain and spring thaw go after, and it ends up getting regraded year after year. Stone and oil replaces that cycle with a surface that stays in place.
Services
If a gravel lane or farm yard is not ready for a new surface yet, dust oil is an affordable way to cut dust and bind loose stone, and it can be reapplied each year as part of regular maintenance.

For a full rebuild we grade and compact the base, apply hot oil, spread small stone, and roll it into place. We quote every job after a site visit.

The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
