Stone & Oil
Driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
Oil and stone driveways, grading, and excavating for Cherry Valley and the hills of eastern Otsego County.
Also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal.
Along Route 20
Cherry Valley is a village in Otsego County on Route 20, with farms and rolling hills around it and older homes in the village itself. Properties outside the village are large, and the driveways are long.
Older village homes often have driveways that have settled over many years, and farm lanes outside town take the full force of the weather. We check the base, set the pitch, and rebuild what is needed before the surface goes down.
Services
Long hillside drives need strong edges so runoff does not cut into them. We build those in as part of the grading.

The Process
We set the pitch for drainage and compact a gravel base. Our dump trucks remove dirt and debris from the site.
Hot oil goes down over the compacted base and binds the surface together.
Small stone is spread over the oil and rolled into place for a natural stone finish.
Where We Work
From the village of Cherry Valley along Route 20 and onto the hill roads, we cover the area, including Cobleskill, Cooperstown, and Richfield Springs.
Questions
Oil and stone is also called stone and oil, tar and chip, or chip seal. We compact a gravel base, apply hot oil, spread small stone over it, and roll it into place. The result keeps a natural stone look and is a cost effective alternative to asphalt.

No. Oil and stone does not need regular sealing.
It handles freeze and thaw cycles well. If you plow, keep the blade just above the surface and finish with a shovel. Snowblowers are fine on oil and stone surfaces.

Stone Kote was not only professional but they did an outstanding job on our driveway. Their price was competitive and our driveway went from a loose stone mud pit to a level and new driveway. We would highly recommend this company!
